High School Performers in JP

As Japanese living outside of Japan, I often of the time introduce myself with nationality.

It is interesting that when I speak about my nationality, the are two different reactions:

1. Oh, Thats nice! sushi, sake, Mt. Fuji (?!)

2. Oh my God, the country of Hentai (Anime)

One in favor the other one with prejudice.

I believe the impression of the country depends on how much people have contact with that

country (or culture). If the person are in favor, they might like Japanese food, Ninja, Enka, Kimino

etc. they have been exposed to traditional Japanese-like culture which some people

finds interesting and unique. Anime culture or Kawaii culture (like Kitty-chan) is also popular in

some parts of the world (like in Brasil, France, or Netherlands etc.).

In the other hand, it is true that Japanese porn industry is big. Many animated porn is all over

the world and some people tight the idea of Anime = porn. It is very bias impression of Japan

however, if the person is only exposed to these kind of Japanese image, there is no wonder they

have prejudice against Japan.

I personally believe, one of the good side of Japanese culture is the harmony and order. This idea

of group-think is very important in Japanese culture. It is emphasize all the school year from

elementary school to high school. Many of Japanese events (such as choir competition, inter

high, cultural day, sports day, school trips) are made in group. Therefore, people weight more the

opinion of the collective than their own ideas. Of course there are also disadvantages such as

not being confident to public speaking, lack of a leader, not innovative etc.

But not entirely of this "collective aspect" of Japanese culture is bad.

Today, I would like to present high school performances. This wonderful performances will not be

made if there was no harmony or importance of collective identity.
